Rests

Bow rests are essential devices used to support and stabilize the front of an arrow until it is released. Unlike traditional bows, modern compound bows feature "centershot" cutaway risers that require a rest to prevent the arrow from falling through the open center.

Common Types of Compound Rests
  • Containment Rests (e.g., Whisker Biscuits): These feature a brush or biscuit that fully surrounds the arrow, ensuring it cannot fall off. They are highly recommended for beginners due to their simplicity and reliability.
  • Drop-Away Rests: These rests are designed to "drop" or fall away the moment the arrow is fired, providing total fletching clearance and minimizing interference during flight.
    • Limb-Driven: Activated by the movement of the bow's limbs (e.g.,  ).
    • Cable-Driven: Connected to the bow's cables to time the drop (e.g.,  ).
  • Target/Blade Rests: Often used in competitive target shooting, these use a flexible steel "blade" or "launcher" to support the arrow.
